Who are you? What makes you uniquely you? That's where you start with your online business strategy.

It sounds vague, I know... but hear me out for a second.

This is my third business. In addition to choosing the wrong income stream for the life I wanted to create (twice), I tried a lot of other things that didn't work for me

I worked with a consultant who built his 30-year career on networking events. He was amazing at what he did. Networking was his strength and it worked for him. But, it didn't work for me. I'm a true introvert - small talk and speed-meeting people isn't my strength and it never will be. 

I beat myself up over and over again because I wasn't good at networking at events. Networking wasn't the only way to build that business, as I was led to believe. That's why I'm so adamant that you can build a business in a way that works for you. You don't have to do what works for other people.

I realized that I have strengths that will allow me to build my business in a way that's authentically me. I just need to trust myself and use them.

Being helpful is very me. It's who I am at my core, which isn't always a good thing. 

  • I enjoy saying yes when someone asks for help - watching my nephew, dog sitting, etc. 
  • I love volunteering. 
  • I enjoy driving my daughters and their friends around in my mom-taxi (most days anyway). 
  • It's also very me to offer to help when my plate is already too full.
  • And I know I annoy some people when I offer to help and follow up with "you sure you don't need help?" 3 times. 

Anyone else an Enneagram 2? I know you feel me if you are. We always have good intentions. 

About a year ago, I read a book (linked below in the Resources) that made me realize how I could use my strengths. It allowed me easily to think of new ways to be authentically me in business. 

Being helpful is now the basis of my business strategy. It's the core of everything I do. 

What does being helpful look like in practice, and how do I use it to make me unique?

  • In some of my products and emails I say "send me a text if you have a question." That's me offering to help. Most online businesses don't offer a direct number you can text to ask a question or set up a call. That makes me unique. 
  • The customer journey I created is based on what my customers have told me they need help with, and they're structured so that you can build on each step. I started that by asking "how can I help" and "what questions do you have?"

People ask me all the time when I offer to help: "What's the catch?" There's no catch. This is me being me in my life and in my business. When you figure out how to be authentically you, everything feels easier and falls into place.

Sure, you may be a mom/parent, working mom, stay-at-home mom, a friend, spouse, but so are a lot of other people.

Who are you at your core? What makes you uniquely you

How can you incorporate that into your business and your strategy?

I am unique.

I have gifts, talents, preferences, and experiences that make me who I am.

I will share them generously as I grow my business.

Once a month, I recommend a book to build your business library. 

I love to read non-fiction books, but a lot of them could be summarized in a quick one-page paper. There are only a few books that are actually worth reading and l recommend to every new online entrepreneur.

If you only read one book this year, I'd recommend The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Idea.

This is the book that became the basis of my online business strategy of being helpful. It perfectly illustrates that being helpful is everything, in business and in life.    

The Go-Giver explains that if you focus on being authentically you, being a good person, and bringing value to others, you will succeed.
